Poetic Poem?

My Mom sent some papers from my high school years the other day and sent it to me...I might have had a streak of "smart alec" in me...

  SCHOOL

The echoes of laughter
Papers on the floor
The seconds go slowly
Each closer to four

The halls are all empty
Lights flicker out
A paper to write
Don't know what about

Now its four
And I can go
Mom's outside waiting
She's mad I know

At home it's worse
Grounded for a week
I shouldn't have said
My teachers a "geek"

I tell my story
My father chokes
Since this school
Is such a joke!

Saturday

Amazingly we have somewhat of a low key weekend planned.  Emma has volleyball practice this morning and then is going to a friends house later in the day to spend the night.  The music lessons were cancelled for today, so we don't have that.  I think Ang & I are going to go in to her school and setup a computer/library room in her bldg.  I have the task of getting a couple computers up and running.

Tomorrow's big event is that Katelyn is going to be baptized.  She's been asking/talking over the past couple of years, but never in depth and with much understanding.  She's ready now, and WEC even had a special "pre-baptism" event for kids her age on what its all about.

Basketball Season

Emma & her team had their 1st playoff game last night and suffered a defeat.  They played hard but just didn't have enough in the tank to pull it out and ended up losing by 4.  The team/school had a field trip to the roller rink yesterday and I think they may have used alot of their energy on that and then kind of struggled during the game.  Plus if they would have won they had to play their dreaded nemesis next...a team they don't care for at all.  So I'm not real sure how much motivation was there.  All in all it was a great season for the LWA Lions!

Double Coupons & Snow Storms

A few things from the past few days...

- Double coupons up to $2 does wonders for savings at the grocery store!
- Katelyn had a gymnastics meet on Saturday and did great.  She got a trick on the uneven bars she hasn't been able to get and ended up just  0.7 points away from Sectionals!
- Love Week is this week thru our church (WEC).  I'm volunteering at the YMCA for a few hours this morning doing some admin type work, Emma volunteers Wednesday night reading to kids, and Angie gives blood Wednesday night.  We might try to fit something else in on Saturday too.  Amazing what a group of people can do for the community when a little effort is put forth.
- We had warnings of a Sunday night/Monday morning snow in the news the past couple days.  Whew...it's pandemonium out there!
The ground is almost covered!  What will we ever do?  This year's winter stinks!
- President's Day...any plans?  Maybe some furniture, some tires, a new car?   How did the day turn in to a "sales day"?

Emma's Challenge

During Emma's piano lessons today I showed her instructor the song she wrote a couple years ago.  Remember this...http://www.takenfam5.blogspot.com/2009/11/emma-song-writer.html

So, maybe she'll get some music written to go along with her lyrics.

Lord, Help Me Help My Stupid Self

Have you ever listened to the Rodney Atkins song, Watching You?  In the song he sings the line "Lord, help me help my stupid self".  Isn't that the truth!

How many times has my mouth, my ill-conceived actions, my misplaced emotions, my laziness, my selfishness, and my plain ignorance got me into trouble?  No comments from you Mom...I was innocent!

So, how do we help ourselves?  In my recent years my faith in God has helped me. The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. Proverbs 24:16 (NLT)  I also think just being aware of ourselves helps.  When we are young we are oblivious to the impact our actions & words have, but as we get older most of us get wiser. Think about a relationship problem you've had in your life sometime...the issue was probably because someone was being selfish, immature, demanding and self-centered.   Hopefully we learned from this and applied some new maturity to our lives.  Some of our best learning experiences have probably come from our most painful, difficult times.

I'm not sure where I was going with this...but I pray I continue to have the Lord helping me!
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen (Ephesians 4:29)
So, how do you help your self?  What has worked for you?

LWA Lions

Emma's basketball team won again last night; they are now 4-2!  She earned MVP honors last week and played great defense and distributed the ball well yesterday.  An excellent turn around for the Lions this year after not winning a game last season.

Thought of the Day

A bend in the road is not the end of the road... unless you fail to make the turn.

Whirling Weekend

I made it home from New Mexico on Friday night...a day late and finished the trip being stuck in 2 hours of traffic on the way home from the airport!

Katelyn, Nicholas, and I drove down to NC to see Dad & Mary on Sat morning.  Emma was still coughing in fits so her and Ang stayed home. We had a good time and the kids (with Grandma's direction) made Dad a birthday cake.  We did miss the snow here in VA though!  I guess we got about an inch at our house, but by the time we made it home on Sunday there was only a small little patch left in the shade.  I wonder if that's going to be our winter?

Another busy week ahead of us with a packed weekend coming.  Katelyn has a gymnastics meet and Emma has a volleyball tournament.

Holloman Horrors

I'm TDY to Alamogordo, NM at Holloman AFB this week.  I flew out Monday and was supposed to be leaving tomorrow.  Well, that idea died today.  Events went crazy and I have to stay thru some meetings tomorrow, the last one not until 4pm.  So, there's no way I could make it to El Paso and catch a flight home.  I now won't get home till Friday night.

My delay causes Angie and the kids issues with a basketball game, volleyball practice, and gymanstics scheduled tomorrow.  Angie has to redo stuff to make it work as best as possible.  Love you honey!

I guess Katelyn may have had a migraine on Tuesday night.  Not good!  Ang said her head hurt so bad she was crying.  Our friend, Alecia, said to give her some caffeine, which Ang did, and I guess she was able to fall asleep.  I sure hope this was a one time deal.

Ready to play!

At Hampton Convention Center on Thursday; a little play time doing some line dancing!

Week in Review

Another busy week in the Kenney Krewe household

- Emma's basketball team came up a bit short this week and suffered a loss; they are now 2-2 (they didn't win any last year so this is still awesome)
- Sick germs have been going thru the house.  Ang wasn't feeling well last Sunday and by mid-week she had no voice.  She taught her class with the white board, a cow bell, and a whistle!  Emma stayed home from school at the beginning of the week and has a cough and nose issues since.  Nicholas has a cough and nose issues now too.  Nothing too major for anybody, just annoying
- Emma had volleyball practice at the Hampton Convention Center on Thursday night.  We had to go a bit earlier and help set up for a major tournament this weekend.  They had 14 nets/courts set up.
- At the grocery store this morning I saw pig stomach and other parts in a gelatine mix that was labeled "pig loaf".  Really?  Ewww!
- Emma had her 1st volleyball tournament yesterday in Richmond.  We left the house around 6:30am and got home around 6:00pm!  Her team great for their 1st official play.  They showed some moments of greatness and moments of "oh, that was my mine?"!
- We ate at a Steak & Shake in Richmond on the way home.  I like their chili and fries together.  The food was tasty, but the initial service was poor.  Good thing we weren't in a hurry
- Angie got asked to lead the 3yr old room at church every week. To make that possible I'm gonna stop volunteering on the 9:45 parking team.  I'll continue at 7am on the parking lot prep.
- We had 60 degree weather again this week...where o where is winter in VA?  We want snow!
- Report cards came out this week.  Our kids are doing GREAT as usual.  I'm a proud Dad!

Camping Trip

Nick & I got a camping trip in last weekend.  We went to Chickahominy Riverfront park over by Williamsburg.  The weather was nice and co...
