Vacation Over

Our Thanksgiving vacation is over.  Boo.  We had a good time enjoying the sunshine and family in Fl.

As much fun as vacation was, it was sure nice to get home.  The kids played outside with the neighbors, Angie had lunch with Sondra, and I've been watching football and doing laundry.  We even have our 1st fire going in the fireplace tonight.

Back to work tomorrow...yuck!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all!  The Kenney Krewe is blessed to have a great family and wonderful friends.  We'll be enjoying our day here in Florida with Karen & Archie, Seth & Ashley and Tom & Andrea.

Thanksgiving vacation is awesome so far.  The kids have enjoyed the pool, Nicholas caught a fish from the canal dock, we went out on Tim & Jan's boat and had a wonderful dolphin show right behind the boat, and lots of relaxing!  This week is going to go by too fast.

Good Day

It's been a good day so far.  I managed to come home a day early from my trip this week, so I was here this morning when everyone woke up.  I went to the kids school late this morning for their chapel service.  Emma sat next to me...I'm a lucky Dad considering she still wants to be "seen" with me!  Nicholas performed on stage too.  I think he was a little bummed because it was supposed to be a black light performance but wasn't.  He was still pretty cute.

I've been trying to get all the laundry done so we can pack suitcases tonight.  Off to Florida for Thanksgiving tomorrow! Yeah!!

Things That Make You Go Hmmm

1) So I'm at the commissary today and the checkout lady has a V-neck sweater on.  Why did I notice this you say?  Because in the center of her chest was a big tatoo of a skull/cross bones!  Really...this is sexy?  I must be old.

2) I was putting stuff away from the commissary when I got home and decided to organize the chip/bread cabinet.  I pulled 16 bags of chips out!  SIXTEEN.  Craziness!  To make matters worse, 3/4 of the bags were almost empty.  How do they accumulate so fast?

3) I admire people who run, and run when weather is bad even more.  But, why run on a busy 2-lane road (cars driving 60mph) with no shoulders to run on.  They must be running so they are healthy as the car runs them over?

Everyone is off and enjoying the day at home.  So why are we off...

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as "the Great War." Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November 11th became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars.

In 1954, President Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.

Britain, France, Australia and Canada also commemorate the veterans of World Wars I and II on or near November 11th: Canada has Remembrance Day, while Britain has Remembrance Sunday (the second Sunday of November). In Europe, Britain and the Commonwealth countries it is common to observe two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. every November 11

1.9 million veterans are under the age of 35.
1.8 million veterans are women.

Does It Own You?

Are we ruled by what we own, fearful of losing what we own, or enslaved by what it takes to maintain what we own?  It’s not that things are bad, but thing should serve us, not rule us. When our stuff is valuable only because it’s ours, we are not in control.

Does our stuff leave us less time and energy for our spouse? Arguments about how money is spent to maintain and add to our possessions hurt marriages. Devotion to our stuff can also hurt the marriage.  Do you have a plan?  How do you decide what to buy, when to buy, or how much to spend?  Make a plan, discuss the plan, and live by the plan.
