- 1st Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday, Sept 5, 1882, in New York City
- In 1884, the first Monday of Sept was selected as the holiday
- The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886
- In 1894, Congress passed an act making the 1st Monday in Sept a legal holiday- The original Labor Day celebration outline was a street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations" of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families.
And then along came 21st century politics and the greedy controlling pretty much everything so we still have this great day but little in the way of a middle class and few jobs to celebrate a day away from. I here China is thinking about celebrating our Labor Day next year.
